The main operational benefit of these machines is to remove large amounts of material from heavy steel, cast steel, or cast-iron work pieces. The machine’s exceptional technological tools allows customers to perform various operations including milling, threading, and many other processes.   If you need service, or maintenance on any Lucas CNC machine, Contact Us today.

 Part 1

  • Lucas horizontal table and saddle off a machine tool customer reach out to us because it was way out of adjustment
  • The other problem is having two, is the head stock was actually falling down. So it’s a combination of two things, uh, that cause them to have this repair done.
  • And we ground the top of here as well as we ground the top, we had to grind the master in the Gib site, and then also underneath where the binders fit in.
  • After that was all set and done, we brought the table up on top of here, and you can see this Dican blue in here. We wanna make sure since we remove material here. We have to build this back up for centerline. So we put turkite underneath here.
  • It’s not done yet. And it does take a little bit of time to flip this thing because of how heavy it is.
  • Once we’re all set and done with that, we’re gonna go back out to the customer. And we’re gonna take the saddle lace, and we’re gonna make sure that the saddle is completely true to the, base of the machine. And the reason why that is critical is because if you’re machining from end to end, if you’re not perfectly chill, you’re gonna have a taper in your part.

And if you guys have the same problem at your facility, give us a call. Let us give you a quote on it, see if it makes sense for you.

 Part 2

  • We scraped in the master way over here.
  • We lost the Gibbs now all the time, we always replace the Turkey, so then that way you have full adjustment. Um, but because we lost this way, we actually shifted the whole entire table inward, because we had to remove material.
  • And by doing, that gives us a larger gap for the, uh, the Gib, which would require you to push the Gib in further. Cause it’s a wedge, uh, to keep it up against the master.
  • So all the time we scrape in the master, and then we’ll remeasure the Gib, and then we actually scrape the Gib in back into the machine. So then that we have a full adjustment at that point, we’re almost done with this machine.
  • You can see here is indicating the binders to make sure that’s all chewed up. And then we’re gonna be re grinding the binders, so that way it’s got a perfect fit once again.
  • The last thing we need to do is do the headstock to column to make sure the sweep is perfectly fine. Because you don’t want the, the headstock hanging forward and cutting shingles on your part.

 Part 3

  • We already determined the size of the material, with the void that we had before.
  • So all we do is we glue it.
  • We set some heavy plates on top of it to make sure you squeeze that globe. And then after that, tomorrow, what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna trim up the Gibbs.
  • We’re gonna remove all this excess turkite. And then we’re gonna hand fit it back into the table and saddle. So that way you have full adjustment on your machine and back to new again.

 Part 4

  • You can see the bedways are perfectly ground. They still got the Dyken Blue on it, cause we did have to do a rub to make sure everything fit.
  • Below it is actually the binders which secures the table to the bottom of this surface right over here, which would be this surface and this surface.
  • So that way it’s got great Cali clamping, and that you can see in here. It’s all got really good rubs. You can see the contact surface on these things, nice finish with a grinder too, of course.
  • But the big thing is I want to show you guys the table on this one. So I didn’t really go into detail […1.4s] too much […0.7s] about how we did it, but it’s just like anything else.So when we first got this machine, we ground the top of the table, […0.7s] actually we ground the saddle,
  • And the other thing that people don’t realize is it when you’re scraping, you got two walls on each side. So what we do is we measure everything. We gotta, you know, compensate for the three, four thousands of glue thickness.
  • And we’ll get this thing pretty damn close now. Because we did that.If you look at the surface, the Bloom makes perfect contact.
  • We’re gonna be adding all of our lubrication system to this machine.
  • Using Gelbox makes this job so much easier. And then also having a perfectly true machine, which is our way grinder to measure everything to make sure we get our heights all right.
  • We’re gonna sweep the spindle to the the each side of the master of the column to make sure it’s perfectly square to confirm that we don’t have any shingles when we’re cutting. We don’t want that spindle hanging down per se. And then your cutter when you get a 6 or 10 inch cutter, one side’s digging the part, the other one’s minus away from the part.

Part 5

  • Here we have a Lucas horizontal boring bar. What we’re doing on this thing is the bed was pretty clean.
  • Um, we put this little fixture up to, kind of support the back end of this thing, and we ended up gluing 90,000 material on the flats, and we got 45,000 on the master.
  • The best way to go about this thing is sweeping as a whole purpose of doing this is making sure you got turkettes, everything slides right.
  • The reason why I do that is we just cheat it. You wanna make it easier on yourself to do the job. Uh, we’re gonna have to take this thing off multiple times, hand scrape the surface, making sure it’s got good contact.
  • Also we’ll do is we’ll scrape out the center of it, so then we could sit in 4.0.
  • Why it’s so crucial? Let’s say if you’re machining something, and you’re not perfectly square to the column. Let’s see if your spindles hanging down.If you’re facing a large part, you know, multiple passes, you’re actually gonna get, like, a shingle, like, look on your part, and that is because the masterway, uh, it just the spindles hanging down, and that’s what happens.
  • It is a bear because in order to scrape this thing is, it takes a lot of time because you have to set this whole thing up.
  • So it is a timely process. I’m not gonna show you all of it cause we take forever. But, um, this is what we have to do to achieve zero or, like, new, uh, conditions for your machine tool.

So if you guys have any questions, definitely let us know. You know, if we can’t do it, we can walk you through it over the phone, or at least tell you who the suppliers are for Turk Ida.
