If you need service, or maintenance on a Mazak M5 lathe –  Contact Us today.

We just received an M5 lathe for a full rebuild, including scraping, alignment, and slide work. It arrived last Friday, and we got it set up by Monday afternoon. We’ve started disassembling it, removing guarding, skids, and beginning the teardown.

The entire machine will be stripped down: headstock, ball screws, bearings, everything. We’re rebuilding both axes’ ball screws and switching from metal-on-metal to turcite under the carriage. Depending on how much material we remove from the bedways, we’ll machine and apply Turcite (usually about 0.035″) to bring it back to centerline.

We already checked the bed for wear using an indicator and found a noticeable dip, which explains recent performance issues. The turret and tailstock will also be fully rebuilt with new seals, bearings, etc.

I plan to share updates every week or two, including videos of key processes, like grinding the bedways and X-axis. If I find any serious issues during teardown, I’ll document them and share them as well.

The goal is to have it fully disassembled by next Friday, pressure-washed, and ready for precision checks on the granite plate.

If you have any questions, please reach out. More updates coming soon.
