Alright, giving you an update on your machine—there’s good news and bad news.

Good news:
We’ve completed the ball slides on the upper Z-axis, and I have them here to show you. The X1 axis and the sub-spindle side are finished with new ball screws installed. Everything is fitted properly, binders are in place, and the top section is good to go.

Bad news:
When we brought this machine in, we indicated everything, and it looked fine. But we didn’t physically check underneath the way section. After a closer inspection, we found scratches on the rail. They’re not deep, but they’re unacceptable for a rebuild. Initially, we didn’t grind this section because I couldn’t get the head of our grinder low enough. Since the rail is at a 45-degree angle, I can now bring the head down and grind it properly in both directions.

Although the scratches are minimal and hard to feel, I cannot in good conscience send this machine out in that condition. It’s our fault for not catching it earlier, and I won’t deliver a machine unless it meets our standards. Instead of sending it to Cleveland—which would cause delays—we’ll do the grinding here in our own shop.

This puts us a little behind schedule. The upper section is done, but we still need to grind the lower X-axis and sub-spindle side. Once that’s complete, I’ll shoot another video showing it pristine and finished the right way.

Timing:
We’ll start grinding tomorrow. Setup will take a day or two, and the grinding itself only about 20 minutes. My guys are working Saturday if needed. I expect it will be resolved within the next few days. Afterward, I’ll run accuracy tests with the slides installed and show you the results.

I’m sorry for this delay, but I wanted to be transparent and keep you updated. Please call me if you have questions. I’ll send another video once the grinding is underway and again when the machine is complete.
