I apologize for the delay in updates—I was out of town Thursday, Friday, and today. Here’s a clear overview of the progress on our metal component fabrication project, outlining where we stand and what’s next.

Current Progress

We’ve made significant strides in preparing the component. The material has been ground using a way grinder to ensure a smooth, consistent surface. We’ve also worked on the master component to maintain precision. Currently, two team members are focused on scraping: one is refining the back of the gibs to ensure perfect contact, while the other is working on the main flats to achieve a uniform surface. The flats show a decent pattern in the center, but some areas, particularly on one side, are still spotty, indicating more scraping is needed.

We’re using templates that match the component’s exact dimensions, marked with blue dye, to guide the scraping and ensure accuracy. These templates are critical for maintaining consistency, especially for the master component.

The scraping process is time-consuming due to the material’s exceptional strength. It feels like we’re removing a lot, but progress is slow because only small amounts of material are taken off with each pass. The gibs still have some gaps, and the flats require further refinement to eliminate inconsistencies.

Our team is moving forward with the following steps:

  • Complete Scraping**: We’ll finish scraping the flats and gibs to achieve a uniform surface and perfect alignment.
  • Master Finishing**: The master component will be finalized using the templates for dimensional accuracy.
  • Gib Adjustment**: The gibs are currently too thick, so we’ll remove material to reach the correct size.
  • Lubrication System**: Once the component is flipped and reassembled, we’ll address the lubrication system. This includes redrilling lubrication holes, which are currently filled with glue, and determining the placement of lubrication lines to ensure proper flow from the casting.

Two team members are working simultaneously to expedite the process, but the material’s durability requires meticulous effort. We plan to provide another update tomorrow or the next day as we progress to the next phase. Once scraping is complete, we’ll set a tentative shipping date and finalize reassembly plans. At this point, we don’t have a confirmed shipping date, but we’ll keep you updated as we near completion.

If you have any questions or need further details, please reach out. We’re committed to keeping you informed and delivering a high-quality component that meets your specifications. Thank you for your patience during this precision-driven process.
