If you need service, or maintenance on the RYAZAN MACHINE TOOL REBUILD – PART 6 – Contact Us today.
Hey, everyone, I’m providing an update on your cross slide project. We’ve installed the ball screw here. We measured from the top, and I believe it was 1,000 minus, which is acceptable since we noticed some sag when the nut was positioned directly over here. So, we’re good with that adjustment. However, we encountered an issue when we ground the base for this rail—it was off by about 3 inches in this work area, translating to a 6- to 7-inch discrepancy end to end. This required putting it back in the machine to regrind it square to the screw, ensuring no further issues at that stage. Next, we applied Daiken blue to the top here because we had to grind the babbitting down by about 30 to 35 thousandths. We’re not finished yet—we still need to scrape this surface to improve the bearing. I’m less concerned about the center but want full bearing across the width. The master piece also needs more bearing; it’s decent on this side but should be filled in more. This rework involves cleaning, stoning, applying Daiken blue to the cross slide, flipping it, pushing it back and forth, checking the contact points, and scraping. It’s a detailed process, so I’ve got two guys starting tomorrow to push it forward. We’ll see where we stand by Monday or Tuesday—maybe it’ll be done, maybe not. We’ll also grind the shim for a perfect fit with the ball screw. Afterward, we’ll grind the binders to ensure perfect contact. The next step is scraping all the gibs, which is time-consuming since alignment relies on hand-scraping. I’ll update you again, likely Tuesday or Wednesday, as that’s the best-case timeline. We haven’t reviewed the lubrication yet—I need to consult the manual for the points and metering. I contacted Lube USA, and they provided a diagram on length, width, speed, and displacement metrics. Expect another video Tuesday to show progress. We’ve missed the safety deadline, but we’re working to finish as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience—we’ll keep you posted! |
