I’m nearly done with everything. We ground the top and bottom of the table and first tried fitting the gibs with 45 thousandths material, but that wasn’t enough, so we switched to 60 thousandths and scraped it in. I still need to remove about half an inch on one side for maximum adjustment, which means there’s about 9 thousandths left. When I set this up, I always reference the keyway off the master to make sure everything is true. That’s how we indicate parts on the machine, since using the keyway keeps everything aligned. The keyways are now aligned perfectly with the master way, which will facilitate smooth operation of the machine. Next, I’ll refine the gib adjustments for better alignment, and we plan to visit on Tuesday to start scraping in the Y-axis and square it up if necessary. If you have any questions, let me know. We’re almost done and should be good to go. |
